The Balochistan Assessment and Examination Commission (BAEC) was established on 2 October 2015 vide administrative order No. 1668-77 of the Government of Balochistan, and was subsequently given statutory status under the BAEC Act 2018.
The Commission is mandated to:
- Conduct valid, reliable and equitable Grade-VIII standardized annual examinations across the province;
- Carry out systematic diagnostic assessments of student learning, including the Provincial Assessment of Student Learning (PASL) and the Foundational Learning Study (FLS);
- Undertake quantitative analysis of learner performance to identify knowledge gaps and suggest remedial measures for implementation at school level;
- Enhance the capacity of teachers in developing quality assessments and conducting examinations;
- Shift the examination culture away from testing of memory towards the assessment of critical and analytical ability.
BAEC follows a continuous improvement cycle for the structure, administration and marking of its examinations, and shares its findings with the School Education Department and other stakeholders.
